Captain Rob is originally a nurse, who moved to Amsterdam 35 years ago. He worked in several hospitals and still works as a freelance dialysis nurse.
Rob has always been particularly captivated by the beauty of Amsterdam and its history.
He always dreamed about living on a houseboat and starting a B&B, but it took a few years to find the right boat on the right spot.
In October 2005 he found the perfect boat, fell for it immediately and closed the deal.
After a thorough inspection and maintenance on the wharf, he started to adapt the boat for a Bed & Breakfast.
Kapitein Rob B&B is entirely decorated in Art Deco/Nouveau style. You can come and go as you please, and are welcome to spend all day on board of the 'Marjolein' if you want, to experience the sensation of living on a genuine local houseboat.
But you probably will want to discover the city from this very central location, opposite City Hall and the Opera house, and steps away from the main nightlife spots around the Rembrandtplein.
Inviting guests on board for dinner, a cup of coffee or a sleepover is no problem, provided that you take responsibility for your guests. For a small additional fee a spare bed is available.
The 'Marjolein' is indeed a ship so the deck can be slippery, the entrance is narrow and steep, and there are steps, curves or low ceilings in some areas of the boat. So staying here may be not a good choice for people with stiff limbs or limited abilities.
